How Not To Do Business

I have talked here before about business practice’s and how they can affect us. This just happened this morning and I find it hard to believe but it did, I have the emails to prove it.

I won’t give a name or website but here is the emails. The first is my email to him.

Mr.Blank,
I called and left you a message but this will be better.
I watched your video about ??? on ???? and you said $7 but
the checkout is for $39.
Let me know if you are selling for $7 I will buy it.
Bob Pearcy

Now let me say, this guy is right on top of getting back to me.
He wrote back-

Bob,
It was $7 when I launched it years ago but now
the price is $39.
Blank

So I wrote back-

Well, in the video on the site that you sent me the link
to this morning you said $7.
Bob

And this was his answer-
It's an old video.
Blank

Now I thought it was a mistake on the site, he said he couldn’t believe he was selling it for $7 and I always figured a man’s word was good to go. If he is advertising on a video is should be as good as in person. If it is an old video then it should be replaced or should be true.

What is the chance of me doing business with man in the future? Pretty Slim, and I will probably block his email.

If we are doing business on the web it takes some diligence to keep our websites current and sometimes we might have to make amends. Our customer only knows what he or she sees and hears on the site.

Sometimes I have to make things right on my online store – Oregon Street Candle Co. but that is business.

Have a Great Day and walk a straight line.

Yes, It is unbelievable how some people conduct their business and manage to survive.

Sometimes I think it might be that they have nothing to lose because they are starting from zero, so any sale is gravy.

After listening to the internet marketing shows I realize that $7 is a magic number. And the tactics that this business uses is all too common. In the old days they would call that, “Bait and Switch”.
I guess that the more things change the more they stay the same.

Eventually people will come to realize that integrity counts for something and will focus their support on legitimate businesses without resorting to tricks.
